Communications

The Communications Center, located on the main floor of the Belmont Police Station, is the public safety nerve center for the Town of Belmont. From the Communications Center, trained dispatchers answer both 911 calls and non-emergency calls, and determine what services are needed for each individual call. The dispatchers then give instructions to Police Officers and/or Fire Fighters based on the location and needs of the caller.

Many Dispatchers are also EMTs and they are all trained in giving first aid instructions over the phone if there is a serious emergency.

Not only are the dispatchers responsible for the calls for service for the Police and Fire Departments, they also assist the DPW by taking off-hours calls, dispatch the Belmont Animal Control Officer, and monitor the radio frequencies of neighboring cities and towns for important information and requests for mutual aid.
