BPD Patrol Area

The Town of Belmont is a densely populated urban area, with 26,171 residents living within 4.7 square miles giving Belmont a population density of 5,316 people per square mile.

The Town of Belmont has a Commuter rail grade that splits the town into halves. When you consider that four-fifths of Belmont residents live on only 39% of Belmont's land  that lies south of the railroad grade, the population density for that area is roughly 11,675 residents per square mile. 

The Belmont Police have divided the Town into three patrol sectors, 383,386 & 387.  These patrol sectors are patrolled 24/7 by cruisers, sector cars, with numbering that corresponds to the sector. 

Sector 383- encompasses the area east of Common Street to the Cambridge/Watertown line.  The 383 Sector is includes the portion of Concord Ave from Belmont Center to the Cambridge line and all the neighborhoods south of Concord Ave.  The population density for the 383 sector is roughly 9,007 residents in an area 1.07 square miles.

Sector 386- encompasses the area north of Pleasant St and north of the intersection at Pleasant and Trapelo Road.   The 386 sector borders the Arlington, Waltham, Lexington & Cambridge town lines and includes a portion of route 2 eastbound.  The population density for the 386 sector is roughly 7,483 residents in an area 2.68 square miles.

Sector 387- encompasses the area south/east of Pleasant Street and the railroad grade and continues to Common Street where it borders with the 383 sector.   Waverly Square is included in the 387 sector. The 387 sector borders Watertown and Waltham.   The population density for the 387 sector is roughly 7,865 residents in an area .42 square miles.
