Belmont Police Provide Identification Program

The Belmont Police Department’s Family Safety Day event will take place Saturday May 10th in the Belmont High School cafeteria from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The free event, put on by the Belmont Auxiliary Police, will feature the Masonic Child Identification Program (MYCHIP) along with presentations of information useful for family safety and health.

MYCHIP provides parents with four methods for finding and identifying their children. The Toothprint™, made by dental personnel, provides a dental record. A swab of the child’s mouth is also taken to obtain a DNA sample. Preserved in a zippered plastic bag, these items should contain enough scent for a trained search dog to identify and track the child.

MYCHIP also records a short videotape of the child answering questions. Members of the Belmont Auxiliary Police will take fingerprints from the children. Parents retain all of the materials for safekeeping and the police department does not keep copies on file.

Parents of students going off to college or traveling abroad are urged to consider taking advantage of the MYCHIP program.

All Ages Welcome

Belmont High School is located at 221 Concord Avenue.
