Assault at Hockey Game Reported to Police
Belmont Police Apply for Criminal Charge against Mother
Belmont, MA-- Police were called to the hockey rink at the Belmont Hill School at noon on Sunday when the mother of a youth hockey league player assaulted another woman who was watching the game. Police have filed a criminal complaint application against the suspect on a charge of assault and battery.
According to witnesses, a fight between players on the ice led spectators to call on the referees to break it up. The mother of one player involved in the fight approached another woman from behind, spun her around, grabbed the woman, and pushed her against a wall. Witnesses called the assault unprovoked.
The assailant left the rink with her son when asked to do so before police arrived. Officers were able to speak with the woman outside and obtain identification.
The victim did not report any injuries to police.
The game involved teams from the Metro Boston Youth Hockey League, which had rented the rink for the game. The teams involved were not affiliated with the Belmont Hill School.
Police are not releasing the names of the persons involved. The suspect will be notified of a date next month when she may appear at a Cambridge District Court hearing that will determine whether a formal criminal complaint should be issued.
